the constantsVocabulary:
Kids actually tend to enjoy vocabulary in my class because they create the lists. Click here to download a vocabulary sheet. For the vocab words, please look at the day the vocab was assigned, under "day by day, play by play." Quizzes happen bi-weekly and can add up to a significant part of the student's grade. Reading Logs: Reading Logs are ongoing and are to be worked on at home. Students are required to read 1.5 hours each week (1 hour for 6th graders). For each half hour read, they must write one entry in the log. Book Projects Book projects will happen each month that we are not reading a book as a class. They are meant to be worked on at home and correspond to the book that the student is reading at home. Book projects are one assignment in which students have a lot of freedom. They can create anything that fits their unique book that they are reading. For example, last year I had a girl reading a book about a girl who wanted to have her own cooking show, so for her book project, she made a video of herself as if she was on a cooking show, while baking cupcakes. Another person created a gorgeous mobile about her book that I had trouble giving back to her because I wanted it to become a fixture in the classroom. One kid wrote and performed a song on the piano, which was inspired by his book. Really, book projects can be anything, as long as it reflects a month worth of work. Click her for more info. |
